Air India Opens ‘Maharaja Lounge’ at Terminal 3 of IGI Airport
Air India has unveiled its new ‘Maharaja Lounge’ at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, marking a significant step in the airline’s ongoing transformation journey. The premium lounge is designed to offer an enhanced travel experience to first-class and business-class passengers, along with eligible club members.
The lounge became operational from February 16, 2026, and will be accessible to first-class and business-class travelers, as well as Maharaja Club Platinum and Gold members. Star Alliance Gold members will also be eligible to use the facility. The inauguration was carried out by Tata Sons and Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran.
Spread across approximately 16,000 square feet at the international pier of Terminal 3, the lounge has a seating capacity of around 300 passengers. According to Air India, the facility is not merely a waiting area but an immersive space that blends Indian heritage with contemporary luxury.
The lounge features multiple sections tailored to diverse passenger needs. A dedicated Serenity Area has been created for travelers seeking rest before long-haul flights, offering reclining chairs and a tranquil environment. Sleep suites have also been incorporated to allow passengers to relax before departure.
A Crystal Bar forms one of the key attractions of the lounge, serving premium beverages and signature cocktails. In addition, a GlobeTrotter Study provides a quiet workspace for business travelers, equipped with high-speed connectivity and a curated collection of books.
The design elements of the lounge are inspired by Indian aesthetics and heritage, reflecting the airline’s effort to position itself as a global ambassador of Indian hospitality. The ceiling design draws inspiration from the propellers of vintage aircraft, paying homage to the airline’s legacy.
Chairman N. Chandrasekaran stated that the Maharaja Lounge is an integral part of Air India’s broader revival strategy. He described it as the first step in a series of next-generation lounges that are planned at major airports in India and abroad. The initiative aims not only to elevate the airline’s service standards but also to offer passengers a distinct experience rooted in Indian culture.
The opening of the Maharaja Lounge signals Air India’s continued focus on premium customer experience as it seeks to redefine its brand identity in the competitive global aviation market.
