Excessive Phone Use Causes Neck Deformity in Youth: Case of ‘Drooping Head Syndrome’

A 25-year-old youth in Japan has been diagnosed with a rare condition called "Drooping Head Syndrome" after spending excessive hours gaming on his smartphone.

According to reports, the young man spent most of his day bent over his phone, particularly while playing mobile games. Over time, this led to serious muscle and bone damage in his neck, ultimately causing his head to droop permanently.

Medical experts from the hospital where he was admitted confirmed that the continuous forward-leaning posture severely weakened his neck muscles and disturbed natural neck development. The young man reported chronic pain and stiffness in his neck and eventually lost the ability to raise his head on his own.

Doctors emphasized the need for digital wellness, cautioning others against prolonged smartphone use, especially with poor posture. Treatment is ongoing, but recovery remains uncertain.

Doctors warn: Excessive screen time with improper posture can lead to irreversible damage.
