Ghaziabad Creates National Benchmark in Cleanliness with Record-Breaking Campaign

Ghaziabad has achieved a significant national milestone in urban cleanliness by successfully conducting a massive, coordinated sanitation drive involving 15,156 participants within a single hour. The unprecedented effort has earned the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation a place in the India Book of Records, marking a proud moment for the city and setting a new standard for civic participation in cleanliness initiatives.

The large-scale campaign was carried out under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Kartikeya Sharma, with active coordination from senior municipal officials, departmental heads, sanitation workers, volunteers, and various social and educational institutions. The drive demonstrated that cleanliness is not merely a government function but a shared civic responsibility requiring collective commitment.

According to officials, the campaign was meticulously planned to ensure maximum participation and impact. Streets, parks, public places, community areas, and key city locations were cleaned simultaneously, transforming the cityscape within a short span of time. The initiative highlighted Ghaziabad’s growing culture of public engagement and accountability toward maintaining a clean and healthy urban environment.

As recognition for this historic achievement, representatives of the India Book of Records formally presented certificates and medals to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation team. Senior officials, sanitation supervisors, and associated stakeholders were felicitated for their coordinated efforts and disciplined execution of the campaign. The achievement was described as not merely a numerical record but a reflection of sustained awareness, teamwork, and administrative efficiency.

Mayor Sunita Dayal, while congratulating the entire municipal team and citizens, emphasized that cleanliness is not a one-day activity but an ongoing responsibility. She stated that such records are meaningful only when followed by consistent efforts to maintain hygiene, sanitation, and environmental sustainability across the city.

Municipal Commissioner Kartikeya Sharma reiterated that Ghaziabad has set an ambitious target to emerge as the top-performing city in the Swachh Survekshan 2025 rankings. He stressed that achieving the number one position would require continuous collaboration between the administration and residents, along with regular cleanliness drives, public awareness programs, and strict monitoring mechanisms.

Officials noted that the success of the campaign was built on three key pillars: large-scale public participation, seamless coordination among municipal departments and institutions, and focused execution at multiple locations across the city. Thousands of citizens, students, social organizations, resident welfare associations, and sanitation workers actively contributed to the drive.

The campaign also saw the active involvement of public representatives, officials from health and sanitation departments, and volunteer groups, reinforcing the message that a clean city is a collective achievement. Ghaziabad’s record-setting initiative is being viewed as a model for other urban bodies aiming to strengthen community participation and improve cleanliness rankings at the national level. With this achievement, Ghaziabad has not only entered the record books but has also reaffirmed its commitment to becoming one of India’s cleanest and most citizen-driven cities.
