India’s Smartphone Exports to the U.S. Jump Fivefold in Three Years

In a significant achievement for India’s electronics manufacturing sector, smartphone exports to the United States have increased nearly five times in the past three years, according to government data. This growth makes the U.S. one of the largest importers of Made-in-India smartphones, led by brands like Apple.

As per the Ministry of Commerce, smartphone exports from India reached an estimated $24.14 billion in FY 2024–25, up from $15.57 billion in FY 2023–24—a 55% year-on-year increase.

Key Export Figures:

  • FY 2021–22: $2.16 billion
  • FY 2022–23: $5.57 billion
  • FY 2023–24: $15.57 billion
  • FY 2024–25 (projected): $24.14 billion

India’s smartphone exports to the U.S. alone surged to $2.2 billion in FY 2023–24, up from $1.07 billion in FY 2022–23, marking the U.S. as the top export destination for Indian smartphones, overtaking the UAE, Netherlands, and other European markets.

The sharp rise in exports is attributed to:

  • Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes by the Indian government
  • Increased local manufacturing by global giants like Apple and Samsung
  • Strengthened supply chain capabilities in India
  • Geopolitical shifts encouraging diversification from China

This upward trend also places India among the top global smartphone manufacturing hubs and highlights its growing influence in the global electronics supply chain.
