Major Reforms Needed to Ensure Safe Air Travel: Parliamentary Committee

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture has emphasized the need for significant reforms to make air travel safer in India. In its latest report, the committee highlighted that the country’s growing aviation sector requires stronger security measures and upgraded safety standards.

The report suggests that the government should establish a single, comprehensive safety framework that applies to all airlines and related services. It also called for stricter regulations on foreign airlines operating in India to ensure uniform compliance with safety norms.

The committee expressed concern over existing loopholes in aviation security and stressed the importance of adopting international best practices. It recommended enhanced security checks, upgraded airport infrastructure, and better coordination between aviation authorities and intelligence agencies.

Additionally, the committee pointed out the need for better training programs for airline and airport staff, ensuring they are fully prepared to handle emergencies and potential threats. It also suggested developing advanced passenger screening systems to detect risks more effectively.

Highlighting the increasing number of air travelers in India, the committee warned that without immediate action, the aviation system may face severe challenges in maintaining safety.
