Uttar Pradesh Government Focuses on Employment and Skill Development, Rejects Demand for Unemployment Allowance

The Uttar Pradesh government has reiterated that it does not plan to introduce an unemployment allowance scheme, emphasizing instead a policy focused on employment generation and skill development for youth. The statement was made during a discussion in the state legislative assembly where the issue of unemployment and youth welfare was raised by members of the opposition.

Responding to questions during the assembly proceedings, Labour and Employment Minister Anil Rajbhar clarified that the government’s strategy is aimed at creating employment opportunities rather than providing unemployment allowances. He stated that while financial assistance in the form of allowances might provide temporary relief, the government believes that sustainable employment is a more effective solution to address unemployment.

The minister highlighted that the state administration has been implementing several initiatives to promote job creation, entrepreneurship, and skill development. These programs are designed to help young people become self-reliant by equipping them with the necessary skills required in modern industries.

During the discussion, the government also announced plans to provide free Artificial Intelligence (AI) training to approximately 2.5 million youth across the state. The initiative aims to prepare young people for emerging opportunities in technology and innovation-driven sectors.

Officials explained that the AI training program will focus on developing advanced digital skills, including artificial intelligence, data analytics, and modern technological applications. The program is expected to enhance employability among youth and help them participate in the rapidly evolving digital economy.

The training initiative will be implemented through specialized institutions and technology platforms. Authorities believe that introducing young people to emerging technologies will not only improve job prospects but also encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the state.

The government also stated that several other programs are being implemented to support startups, promote self-employment, and strengthen skill development across multiple sectors. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy aimed at transforming Uttar Pradesh into a hub for industrial growth and technological innovation.

Officials pointed out that the state has been witnessing increasing investment in industries and infrastructure projects, which are expected to create new employment opportunities. Efforts to promote digital education, industrial expansion, and skill-based training are intended to prepare the workforce for these emerging opportunities.

The government also emphasized that youth empowerment remains a key priority. Programs designed to support entrepreneurship, provide access to training, and encourage innovation are being expanded to ensure that young people can actively participate in economic development.

The debate in the legislative assembly highlighted differing approaches to addressing unemployment. While opposition members argued in favor of financial support measures such as unemployment allowances, the government maintained that its focus on job creation and skill development would deliver more long-term benefits.

Officials further stated that technological training programs such as AI education would help the state’s youth remain competitive in a rapidly changing global job market. By equipping young people with advanced digital skills, the government aims to prepare them for careers in high-growth sectors including information technology, data science, and emerging technology industries.

Overall, the government’s policy approach reflects an emphasis on employment generation, entrepreneurship, and technological education as key pillars of youth development. Through initiatives focused on skill enhancement and innovation, authorities aim to create sustainable employment opportunities while encouraging young people to become self-reliant contributors to the state’s economy.
