Supreme Court Denies Interim Bail to Former Amtek Group Chairman in ₹2,700 Crore Bank Fraud Case
The Supreme Court has rejected the plea for interim bail filed by Arvind Dham, the former chairman of the Amtek Group, who is accused in a ₹2,700 crore bank fraud case.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and S.V.N. Bhatti stated that Dham’s earlier special leave petition seeking bail had already been dismissed by a three-judge bench of the apex court.
Key Observations by the Court:
The bench noted that the applicant had been in custody for 11 months and his regular bail petition was pending before the court since February 2025. The court said there was no justification to grant interim relief when the substantive petition itself had been rejected earlier.
Dham’s counsel, Rohatgi, withdrew the application after the court indicated it was not inclined to consider the plea.
Background of the Case:
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has accused Dham of embezzling bank loans through shell companies, diverting funds, and acquiring personal assets valued at over ₹2,700 crore.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had directed the jail authorities to ensure Dham received appropriate medical care and permitted family visits due to his reported depression.
The matter remains pending for regular bail hearing before the Supreme Court.
