Vrindavan to Get Krishna Pedhi and Scenic Ghats in ₹100 Crore Makeover
Inspired by Ayodhya’s Ram Path, Vrindavan is set to undergo a grand transformation with the creation of a Krishna Pedhi (sacred promenade) and a series of picturesque ghats along the Yamuna river. The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has prepared a detailed project proposal valued at ₹100 crore, which has received state government approval.
According to officials, the Krishna Pedhi will be constructed near the famous Banke Bihari temple corridor. Designed to be visually stunning, the ghats will provide serene spaces for pilgrims to meditate and enjoy the river views.
A 1.6-kilometre stretch from Kesi Ghat to Kalideh Ghat will be redeveloped, with the Yamuna’s water filtered and channeled to create stepped bathing areas. A special focus will be placed on restoring historic ghats and improving public access to the river.
Tourism officer Shyam Bahadur Singh explained that the project will include a bridge connecting the Krishna Pedhi to heritage zones, so devotees can reach the ghats conveniently. The new construction will also integrate lighting, pathways, and signage to guide visitors.
Among the highlights:
- A scenic walking circuit along the ghats and Krishna Pedhi.
- New viewing platforms to observe the Yamuna’s sacred sites.
- Dedicated spaces for cultural events and evening aarti ceremonies.
- Landscape improvements and seating areas for pilgrims.
Officials noted that although Vrindavan attracts millions of devotees annually, many older ghats remain in poor condition. The redevelopment aims to rejuvenate the area and showcase Vrindavan’s heritage to both domestic and international tourists.
Once funding is released, the tourism department will prepare a final Detailed Project Report and begin phased construction.
