Double Standards on Women’s Honour Will No Longer Be Accepted by the Nation: Gaurav Bhatia
A significant press conference was organised at Anant One Hotel and Banquet in Navyug Market, Ghaziabad, to discuss the Nari Shakti Vandan Act and the political approach of opposition parties, particularly the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, on issues related to women’s dignity, rights and representation.
Senior Supreme Court advocate and BJP’s chief spokesperson, Gaurav Bhatia, addressed the media as the main speaker. During the interaction, he strongly criticised the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, alleging that both parties have historically maintained only symbolic sensitivity towards women’s rights and dignity. According to him, whenever the question of granting real rights and meaningful participation to women arises, these parties have stood together in opposition.
Bhatia described the Nari Shakti Vandan Act as a historic and transformative step towards politically empowering women in India. He said that the Act represents a major democratic milestone, aimed at giving women stronger representation in legislative bodies and ensuring their greater participation in the country’s decision-making process. However, he alleged that the Congress and the Samajwadi Party have attempted to weaken the importance of this historic measure by spreading confusion and misinformation among the public.
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Bhatia said that both leaders have developed a similar negative mindset that, according to him, seeks to prevent women from receiving their due rights. He claimed that this approach stands against the true spirit of women’s empowerment. He further said that Rahul Gandhi should apologise to the women of the country for the manner in which his party has opposed this historic legislation.
Bhatia stated that parties that remained in power for several years failed to take concrete steps to ensure proper representation for women. He said that when the country is moving towards providing 33 percent reservation to women, some political parties are opposing the initiative due to their own political interests. He added that turning matters related to women’s honour, rights and participation into political disputes is unfortunate, and the country should adopt a united and positive approach on such issues.
Other speakers present at the press conference also expressed their views on women’s rights, safety and social dignity. They described the Nari Shakti Vandan Act as a historic step that will strengthen India’s democratic framework and provide women with a greater role in governance and public life.
At the conclusion of the programme, Mahanagar President Mayank Goyal thanked all the media representatives and said that such dialogue is essential for creating awareness in society. He emphasised that issues related to women’s dignity and participation should be discussed with seriousness and responsibility.
Several prominent individuals, including Mayank Goyal, Chain Pal Singh, former Mayor Asha Sharma, Pradeep Chaudhary, Neeraj Sharma, Karun Sharma, Pankaj Bharadwaj, Pradeep Chauhan, Gaurav Chopra, Navneet Mittal, Devendra Chaudhary, Amit Chaudhary, Pawan Som, Akash Gautam and other respected members, were present during the press conference.
